TIM VAN HORN

At age five, Tim had already taken his first photo and had decided he wanted to be a “cameraman.” Growing up and travelling around Canada with his family—his dad was in the Canadian Air Force—he developed a sense of duty to the people he met, and fell in love with the different cultural experiences in his changing surroundings. His vision for Canada’s 150th birthday was to create a mobile pavilion steeped in innovation and learning, then travel the land inspiring the nation to believe in the multitude of amazing possibilities and talents within themselves and this great country. Turn to page 8 to enjoy his photo essay, The Canadian Experience.

J.C. VILLAMERE

Pop culture critic J.C. Villamere knew how to drive a SkiDoo by age 8 and her body is 90 per cent maple syrup. She is arguably the most Canadian woman in the world. J.C. was born in Arnprior and has lived in Ottawa, Sundridge, New Liskeard, Fonthill and Kingston, Ont., as well as in Banff, Alta., but it wasn’t until she moved to Dublin, Ireland, that she realized how special Canada is. Her new book, Is canada even real?, featured in Showcase on page 38, is a funny social history of Canada as told through our pop culture icons. J.C. now lives in Hamilton with her family.

LINDA CROCKATT

Linda makes her home in Stonewall, Man., and farmed with her husband until he passed away a few years ago. She now keeps busy with work, her two sons, Jay and Kyle, daughter- in- law Kyla, and grand- daughters Landyn and Brynn. She likes to socialize with friends and volunteers with a Kin Canada club. Her hobbies include travelling, walking, curling, scrapbooking and reading. Linda wanted to share the Hindmarch family diary, so others could get an idea of what it took to be a homesteader in Canada in the 1880s. Turn to page 41 to read her riveting story, A Journey to Remember.

LINDA LEE

Born and forged in northern Ontario—and proud of it—linda is also delighted she had the good fortune to set down roots and raise her family in the Maritimes. She and her husband of 26 years, Mike, are blessed with two young adult children. Linda loves to hike the deep trails of our beautiful country—read about her love of Fundy National Park in Our Travels on page 52—and travelling abroad. Her latest adventure was in Peru and Chili. Closer to home, she enjoys tending her gardens—linda says life is busy and she loves it.
