BEVERLY LAFORTUNE
Born in Halifax, Beverly moved to Ottawa in 2006 with her husband Paul, where they finished raising their five boys. Bev has been interested in photography since childhood, and her completion of a photography certificate at Algonquin College in 2012 has only intensified her passion for this art form. Bev likes spending time in nature to photograph life in motion and colourful landscapes. Her favourite subjects are birds and water. With Paul’s upcoming retirement, Bev is looking forward to them travelling more across Canada. Read about their trip to the Yukon in Our Travels on page 18.
GEORGE R. ROBERTS
George is 92 years young and lives in Victoria, having moved there from Toronto in 1954. He served in the Second World War, after which the Canadian government sponsored his high-school completion, as well as his Bachelor of Commerce degree. He subsequently pursued a long and successful career in accounting, including a five-year stint with the Revenue Canada Agency, followed by a private practice. Throughout it all, George never lost his love for music and, as you will see in Showcase on page 38, the “Limerick Man“has a tremendous way with words—and a rapier-like wit!
CANDY ALEXANDER
Born in Winnipeg, Candy’s family moved to Montreal when she was in Grade 2. She graduated from Mcgill University with a degree in physical education, and taught in Montreal for 12 years. She met and married her husband, Gordie, moving to Prescott, Ont., in 1979. Sadly, Gordie passed away in 1995. After retiring, Candy joined several organizations, which included being on the executive board of the Prescott Royal Canadian Legion Branch 97 for many years—her passion is the position of chair of youth education. She also volunteers for many community events: See Cause for Applause on page 58.
KEN CRUSH
Born and raised on a farm near Lone Rock, Sask., Ken enjoyed a rewarding career as an elementary school teacher, principal and assistant director. Upon retiring, he and his wife, Patty, bought 72 acres of farmland and Ken returned to his roots—training young horses. He is now in his seventh year as a trustee for the Prairie Spirit School Division Board of Education. With two children, six grandkids and Patty by his side, he feels truly fortunate, as he is healthy, happy and has many family and friends. Plus, he just realized a longheld dream of owning a convertible, which he shares in Wheels on page 63.
