CONTRIBUTOR SPOTLIGHT

-

MEGAN LORENZ

Based in Toronto, Megan is a wildlife photographer who was able to turn her passion for the outdoors into her career. Megan believes that intensive knowledge of a species behaviour, traits and habitat is paramount to successful wildlife photography and has an unending amount of patience, which helps her in the field waiting for the ideal moment. This is demonstrated to perfection in her photo essay Winter Royalty (page 8), about bonding with and photographing a Canada lynx. Among her many awards, she is a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal recipient for her contribution to Canadian wildlife photography.

KAT STEFANKIEWICZ

If you’ve ever attended a Toronto Raptors game or you follow the reigning NBA champions online, you probably recognize the team’s in-game and digital host, Kat Stefankiewicz. As she tells us in her Showcase story on page 30, Kat grew up playing competitive sports and pursuing her passion for dance and the performance arts in general. Being hired as a member of the Raptors Dance Pak was her first professional gig, and led not only to her being the game-day voice and face of the Raptors today, but also to appearances in blockbuster movies such as

The Incredible Hulk, television commercials and so much more. Talented, vivacious, inspiring—that’s Kat!

GEORGE MCDERMOTT

George is a semi-retired production worker who was born and raised in Toronto, and then spent many years taking wedding photos while living in Kitchener, Ont., an entrepreneurial sideline he still pursues today. An avid sports fan and nature photographer who can be found camping all over Ontario with his wife Audrey and their two dogs, George has resided in Stratford, Ont., for the past nine years. He tells us all about the joys of winter to be found there in My Hometown on page 38. George would love to spend more time travelling across our beautiful country—and see the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup in his lifetime!

BONNIE DONILY

Bonnie lives and works with her husband, Rick, in the family business (a denture clinic) in the small town of Vermilion, Alta., not far from the even smaller town of Derwent where she grew up. Although she lives rurally, Bonnie enjoys exploring cities when she and Rick travel. She is also thankful for her Ford Escape as she likes to drive, just like her mom; read all about that in her story, Mom in the Driver’s Seat on page 42. Bonnie loves to write slice-of-life essays and is currently working on a memoir about her mother. You can also check out her blog at www.bonniedonily.com.
