‘Quartette’ concert slated for Venables Auditorium
Juno-nominated group includes legendary Sylvia Tyson
OLIVER — Medici’s Gelateria and Oliver’s Grandmothers for Africa are co-sponsoring a concert featuring Quartette, Wednesday at Frank Venables Auditorium.
Quartette showcases the talents of Cindy Church, Caitlin Hanford, Gwen Swick, and Sylvia Tyson. Since their debut in 1993, the four members have been both publicly and critically acclaimed for their lush harmonies with influences covering blues, gospel, folk, country, jazz and pop.
Quartette was formed for a concert at Toronto’s Harbourfront in 1993. The following year, the group received the Canadian Country Music Association’s award for best vocal collaboration. In 1995 and 1996, it garnered Juno Award nominations for best country group. While Quartette continues to tour extensively in Canada, has six CDs to their credit and plays select dates with symphony orchestras, each member has been able to maintain their individual solo careers.
Tyson of Ian & Sylvia fame (You Were on my Mind, Early Morning Rain), is arguably the best known member of the group. The ladies have two Christmas CDs under their belts, “A Quartette Christmas.” and “It’s Christmas!” They deliver a unique blend of Christmas music in their trademark harmonies in a show that is truly reverent.
Quartette , featuring Sylvia Tyson, perform at the Frank Venables Theatre on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 each with assigned seating. To purchase tickets visit Medici’s at 522 Fairview Road in Oliver, phone 250-498-2228 or purchase online at www.venablestheatre.ca.
