Salvation Army thanked for organic produce

- Leda Cedar

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a first-person account from an individual involved with a spinoff program of the Salvation Army’s food bank in Penticton.

I am so grateful to the Salvation Army, to Sandie and Barb as they totally helped me eat well and not be on the edge penny pinching, as well as it was all organic and tasty produce I got with BC Farmer’s Market coupons.

It brightened up every week for me as I headed to the farmer’s market with my bags on my bike ready to fill my fridge every week instead of once a month.

Volunteering at the community garden growing for the food bank was good hard work, but getting the coupons was a huge reward, and having the support of the community garden program brightened up my world so I didn’t feel alone in poverty or in the struggle of everyday life.

Martin Street garden that grows for the food bank gave me routine and belonging as well as purpose and meaning. I’m forever grateful and if the Salvation Army needs volunteers, they can call on me.
