INDOOR SOCCER

Zico Pescada piled up four goals and two assists as Penticton Lock and Key kicked off the 2017 part of the season with a 9-4 win over TC Auto Sales in Bad Tattoo Brewery Masters Indoor Soccer League action Sunday at the Adidas Sportsplex.

Norman Peters had a hat-trick and Phil Barata and Brian Dean with his first of the season also scored for PLK, who led 5-2 at halftime. Peter Ruocco tacked on three assists.

Mike Beliveau and Brian Johnston each scored twice for TC Auto.

In the late game, Joe Kandola scored once and assisted on two others as Rona beat Harvey-Lister-Webb 5-2 in a showdown for first place.

Darryl Pace gave Rona a 1-0 lead at halftime and Paul Borba scored a big goal early in the second half to double the lead.

Darren Schimpf and Reed Jenkins scored for HLW. Goalies Tom McGill of Rona and Pat Van Ryswyk of HLW both had terrific games between the sticks.

Rona now leads the league after nine rounds of play with 17 points, HLW is second at 14, PLK has 12 and TC Auto 11.

Pescada leads the league with 39 points with Beliveau second at 23.

In games this Sunday, TC Auto plays HLW at 10 a.m. and PLK takes on Rona at 11:15 a.m.

MINOR HOCKEY

A late surge fell short as the Penticton Murray GM Jr. Vees dropped a 4-3 decision to visiting Trail on Saturday in bantam tier 2 league play.

Aaron Funk scored twice and Owen Labadie had the other for the Vees, who are still in first place in the Okanagan-Mainline league.

The Vees have just three league games left, with West Kelowna visiting Memorial Arena this Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
