Event combines aspects of weightlifting, powerlifting, medicine ball and kettlebell training, rowing, running, skipping, plyometrics and gymnastics

More than 350 athletes will take part in the fourth annual Okanagan Valley Throwdown crossfit-style competition Jan. 28-29 at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Co-presented by Hoodoo Adventures and Evolution Athletics, and fuelled by Muscle MLK Canada, the event is programmed uniquely using movements that include weightlifting, powerlifting, medicine ball and kettlebell training, rowing, running, skipping, plyometrics and gymnastics.

While the event is geared towards fitness enthusiasts who already take part in CrossFit, either competitively or recreationally, the Throwdown appeals to athletes of all abilities, especially first-time and recreational competitors.

The event attracts individual men and women, recreational groups, competitive and masters (ages 40-plus) teams from across Western Canada and the U.S.

An onsite vendor expo, open throughout the weekend, will feature a variety of Canadian fitness companies and food vendors.

The event is part of The Throwdown Series — comprised of both the Okanagan Valley Throwdown and the Fraser Valley Throwdown.

While registration for the competition is sold out, spectators are invited to check out the action and cheer on athletes at the SOEC.

Partial proceeds from spectator ticket sales will support the Youth Outdoor Recreation Society (YORS) and the South Okanagan Children’s Charity.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Spectator tickets are $8/person per day, $14/person weekend pass, $30/family (of four) day pass, $40/family (of four) weekend pass.

Ticket information is available online at throwdownseries.ca/ovt/ or in-person at the Valley First Ticket Office (located at the SOEC).
