RCMP comb site where body was discovered

- By JOE FRIES

Investigators on Thursday morning continued their methodical examination of a Willowbrook Road vehicle pullout where a man’s body was discovered 48 hours earlier. The area was behind a police blockade Tuesday and Wednesday, but as of Thursday, the road had reopened, giving passers-by a view of the crime scene.

Police erected a temporary shelter over part of the pullout at the south end of White Lake and hauled in a light plant to illuminate the area. Yellow evidence markers were visible underneath the shelter and beside what appeared to be tire tracks in the snow. Mounties also had tarps weighed down with sandbags to cover spots on the ground outside the shelter.

A handful of officers — plainclothes and uniformed — was at the scene Thursday morning. One of them appeared to be taking measurements using surveying equipment, while another looked to be taking photographs.

Officially, however, police still aren’t saying much, other than to confirm the man’s death is considered suspicious.

Cpl. Janelle Shoihet, the B.C. RCMP spokesperson assigned to the case, said Thursday she’d been unable to get in touch with investigators for an update.

The body was found only about two kilometers from the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory. A spokesperson for the National Research Council, which runs the facility, said the operation has not been affected by the investigation.
