No, the majority aren’t in favour of tourist centre location

-

Editor: I could barely believe my eyes when I saw the front-page story on Monday, Jan. 16 in The Daily Courier saying most people like the proposed location of the tourist centre.

Has anybody been reading the letters to the editor lately? There are definitely not many in favour of this location on the waterfront.

The reason for the negative responses is obvious — to preserve and protect our precious waterfront. Once a building is put on it, waterfront can never be redeemed.

I agree with all the comments about choosing a building on Bernard Avenue, if you must have a downtown location, and the comments that point out there is no parking for cars, never mind the trailers, fifth wheels, campers, etc., transporting these tourists.

A kiosk during tourist season to hand out brochures would be appropriate somewhere near City Park or The Sails, but a twostorey building is completely out of reason.

Suggestions have been made to keep the Highway 97 site and other alternatives where tourists can park their vehicles and get information (for those not using the internet).

For visitor centre supporters to give the impression that most people are in favour of the location and the design of the building, I believe, is misleading, considering how many letters to the editor express complete disagreement with the proposed location.

Please city hall: Listen to the people and make a wise decision regarding the location of a new tourist centre, keeping in mind what will be lost forever if you continue to think it should be on the waterfront. Count me as opposed to a waterfront location.
