Local team wins Summerland bonspiel

Sixteen teams — including eight from Summerland, three from Penticton and one each from Oliver, Osoyoos, Kelowna, Winfield and Rossland — took part in the annual Men’s Open Bonspiel at the Summerland Curling Club last weekend.

It was an exciting weekend of play with five games going into extra ends.

A event: The Summerland team of Jared St. John (skip), Graham Lyle, Russ Lemke and Jamie Denton came out on top, while runners-up were the Pentcton team of Brad Wood (skip), Al Pratt, Lonnie Carpenter and Darren Moffat.

B event: The Osoyoos team of Terry Bolton (skip), Graham Bensted, Patrick Campbell and David Arnold triumphed, while runnersup were the Penticton team of Chris Cottrill (skip), Brad Sullivan, Ken Sapsford and Alex Bodden.

C event: The Kelowna team of Ken Johnson (skip), Tim Johnson, Gary Wilson and Ray Koepke prevailed, while the Rossland team of Leif Devantier (skip), Mike Aman, Zack Nickson and Kevin Mahon were runners-up.

D event: The Summerland team of Don Lawrence (skip), Dean Jones, Rick Pedder and Mike Bevan finished first, while the runners-up were the Oliver team of John Chapman (skip), Ken Rae, Mark Verhelst and Tim Vannice.

TIP OF THE WEEK: A stone can be redelivere­d if it does not cross the first T-line.
