TORONTO (CP) — Mika Zibanejad scored the shootout winner as the New York Rangers continued a scorching February with a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.

Henrik Lundqvist made 32 saves and J.T. Miller scored the gametying goal in the third period for the Rangers, who improved to 8-1-1 this month.

The win moved New York into third place in the Metropolitan Division.

Connor Brown scored the lone goal for Toronto (28-20-12), which fell to 1-7 in shootouts this season. Frederik Andersen had a stellar performance in defeat with 37 saves.

Andersen entered the night with an .894 save percentage since Jan. 1 and .913 overall on the season, his first with the Leafs.

Both goaltenders shone in the overtime with Lundqvist stopping breakaways on both Auston Matthews and Leo Komarov.

ISLANDERS 3, CANADIENS 0

MONTREAL — It was a big night for New York Islanders rookie Anthony Beauvillier, but not so great for Montreal coach Claude Julien in his 1,000th NHL game.

Beauvillier scored in the first period of his first game in the Bell Centre, where he grew up rooting for the Canadiens, and Thomas Greiss had a 24-save shutout as the Islanders downed the slumping Canadiens 3-0 on Thursday night.

“It’s really special,” said the Sorel, Que. native, who was named first star of the game. “I couldn’t ask for a better night than getting the two points in Montreal with family and friends around, and for the ovation at the end.”

Anders Lee also scored and John Tavares added an empty-net goal for the Islanders, who won a third straight game and are 12-4-2 since Doug Weight replaced Jack Capuano as coach.

Montreal is 1-2-0, including 0-2-0 at the Bell Centre, since Julien replaced the fired Michel Therrien last week. They are 2-7-1 in their last 10 games.

FLAMES 3, LIGHTNING 2

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Sean Monahan scored his 100th NHL goal, Brian Elliott made 23 saves and the Calgary Flames beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 on Thursday night.

Dougie Hamilton had a goal and two assists and Mikael Backlund also scored to help the Flames improve to 7-2-1 over their last 10 games.

Tampa Bay, which entered with a seven-game points streak (5-0-2), got goals from Vladislav Namestnikov and Nikita Kucherov. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 22 shots.

After Blacklund scored 5:04 into the second, Monahan put the Flames up 2-1 just 1:21 later on his 20th goal this season.
