The RDOS Board recognizes the tremendous value and diversity of heritage throughout our region. The Regional Heritage Strategic Plan was completed in Fall of 2015, and in 2016 a sub-regional heritage service was established. Key objec ves for 2017 include growing the RDOS Heritage Register, increasing public awareness of heritage sites, and enhancing heritage interpretati- on through the RDOS website. The RDOS Heritage Register is the cornerstone of the region’s heritage program. It provides an inventory of sites in the RDOS that are deemed to have heritage significance for past, present and future generati- ons. Heritage significance may be a ributed to sites, buildings, and landscapes that hold historical, cultural, social, economic, spiritual, recreati- onal, aestheti- c, scienti- fic, or educati- onal worth. Interested par es can nominate a heritage site by comple ng a Statement of Significance at a heritage workshop. The next heritage workshop is scheduled to take place at the Grist Mill and Gardens in Keremeos on Friday, March 24th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. To RSVP please e-mail: cgartner@rdos.bc.ca. The RDOS is always seeking to increase public awareness of heritage throughout the region and works in partnership with a number of heritage groups to provide support in grant writi- ng, interpreti- ve signage and the promoti- on of local events. If you have a heritage program or event that you would like adver sed through the RDOS website, please email: heritage@rdos.bc.ca.
