Samurais win league title
The Penticton Okanagan Hockey Group Jr. Vees Samurais captured the Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association peewee rec hockey league title.The team went 15-3-0 in South Central League play and are 30-7-0 overall this season, with one more spring tourney left and five more games to be played. The Penticton Vees won’t start the post-season for another two weeks, but there is a good chance fans will get to see a junior hockey playoff game at the South Okanagan Events Centre this weekend.
Due to the District of Summerland’s water shutdown, the Summerland Steam is unable to use the Summerland Arena in the event a Game 7 is needed to decide their Okanagan Division semifinal series against the Kelowna Chiefs.
If a Game 7 is required, it will now be played Saturday at 7 p.m. at the SOEC.
Game 5 was played Thursday in Summerland with the series all square at 2-2, with Game 6 set for tonight at 7 p.m. at Rutland Arena.
The winner of the series takes on the Osoyoos Coyotes, who swept North Okanagan 4-0 in the first round.The first two games of the series will be played in Osoyoos, starting either Monday or Tuesday.
REC HOCKEY
Carter Rigby scored twice to lead the Gametime Sports Wolverines to a 6-3 victory over the Broncos in Penticton Men’s Recreational Hockey League playoff action Wednesday.
Matt Fraser, Chad Parenteau, Sam Nigg and Derek Grimm also connected for the winners.
Jordan Moss, Andrew Pond and Chris Pond replied for the Broncos.
Next playoff action is Monday at 8:45 p.m. at Memorial Arena with the teams to be announced.
