Bantams hosting 16-team tourney

Sixteen teams — including three local squads — are suiting up for the annual Penticton Minor Hockey Associatio­n bantam rec tournament today to Sunday.

All four local rinks will be utilized, with 33 games to be played over the three days.

Penticton will be represente­d by the Phantoms, Fury and Vets. Kamloops, Aldergrove and Semiahmoo will each have two entries, with South Okanagan, Aldergrove, Williams Lake, Kimberley, Chilliwack, Langley and Hope each sending one team.

Action starts today at 3:30 p.m. and continues through to the championsh­ip game Sunday at 12:15 p.m. at Memorial Arena.

Here is the schedule for the local teams, as well as the playoff round on Sunday:

TODAY: Fury vs. Semiahmoo, 3 p.m., McLaren; Phantoms vs. South Okanagan Hawks, 3:30 p.m., SOEC; Vets vs. Semiahmoo Ravens, 8:15 p.m., McLaren.

SATURDAY: Fury vs. Williams Lake Blues, 7:15 a.m., OHS rink; Phantoms vs. Kamloops Legends, 8:15 a.m., Memorial; Vets vs. Kamloops Billionair­es, 9 a.m., OHS.

Fury vs. Abbotsford Hawks, 11:45 a.m., Memorial; Phantoms vs. Aldergrove Mafia, 5 p.m., Memorial; Vets vs. Abbotsford Thunderhaw­ks, 8:30 p.m., Memorial.

SUNDAY: Semifinals, 6:45 a.m., OHS, and 7 a.m., Memorial; championsh­ip, 12:15 p.m., Memorial.

Bantam Tier 2 final

If a Game 3 is needed in the Okanagan-Mainline Amateur Hockey Associatio­n bantam tier 2 championsh­ip series, it will be played Sunday at 4 p.m. at Memorial Arena.

The Penticton Murray GM Jr. Vees lead the best-of-3 series 1-0 over Kamloops after a 7-2 home-ice win last weekend.

The Vees will be in position to wrap it up with a win Saturday at 2:45 p.m. in Kamloops.

The series winner advances to the provincial championsh­ip March 19-23 in Powell River.
