Mixed results for 6th-place Owls
The Kelowna Owls senior girls’ basketball team settled for a sixth-place showing at the recent 3A provincial championships in Langley.
The Owls experienced highs and lows in winning two games, but also losing a pair.
Kelowna opened on a positive note, scoring a 58-37 victory over Carson Graham. Kennedy Dickie recorded a double-double — with 11 points and 10 rebounds — for player of the game honours, while Dez Day netted a teamhigh 15 points.
Rachel Hare had nine points and four rebounds. Alley Corrado also had nine points, with nine steals.
Kelowna dropped its second game, falling 76-56 to Brookswood, the No. 3ranked team in the tournament.
Corrado was named player of the game for KSS, leading the Owls with 14 points and four steals in a losing effort. Dickie contributed 12 points, 15 rebounds and four steals, and Day added 10 points.
Kelowna got back in the win column with a 71-64 overtime triumph against Argyle.
Courtney Donaldson stepped up with 13 points and seven steals to earn player of the game, while Dickie led the way with 19 points and nine rebounds. Hare also had 13 points.
In their final game of the tournament on March 4, the Owls faced Oak Bay, which was ranked No. 1 coming into provincials and proved why in defeating KSS 67-42.
Dickie was once again the Owls’ top scorer with 11 points and seven rebounds. Corrado chipped in eight points and seven steals, while Hare and Chelsea Espenberg both added six points.
The Owls essentially finished where they started, having been ranked No. 6 ahead of the tournament.
