Kelowna skaters shine on home ice

-

The Kelowna Skating Club played host to the 2017 B.C. Super Series Star Final last weekend, an event that serves as the provincial championships for developmental level figure skaters.

The hosts also proved to be a dominant B.C. club once again, as 20 local skaters won eight medals in total.

A weekend highlight featured a trio of Kelowna skaters sweeping the podium in the Juvenile Women under-14 event.

Kelowna’s Emily Sales skated a clean performance and scored a personal-best 32.91 points to capture the gold medal. Brooklyn Cowen and Kira Koffler skated to silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Sales also won the silver medal in the STAR 9 event. This was nothing short of an excellent season for the 11-year-old Dorothea Walker student, as she also captured the B.C. and Yukon crown at the Sectionals in November.

Another highlight for the Kelowna team was a 1-2 finish in STAR 5 Girls under-10 division. Megan Yudin captured the provincial title with a personal-best score of 20.45, while her club mate Gabrielle Jugnauth finished second with 20.18, also a personal-best.

The Kelowna team also had great success in the STAR 4 Girls under-10 event. Ariana Rose won the gold medal, while Calissa Adlem won bronze.

This event represented the end of the season for B.C. figure skaters.

“It was a great finish to the season for our crew,” said club director Jason Mongrain. “It is very promising to see such strong results and depth from our younger skaters.”
