Penticton Vees forward Duncan Campbell has signed up to play hockey next fall at Queen’s University.

The 20-year-old forward, who won the Vees’ Unsung Hero Award for his efforts during the 2016-17 regular season, says the school in Kingston, Ont., offers the “perfect balance” between athletics and academics.

“The schooling is top notch as they are considered one of the best schools in the country and the education side is really important to me,” the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder said in a press release.

“Their hockey program is really strong, too, with being a top-five ranked team nationally and they’re competing in the U Sports national championship this year.”

Campbell joined the Vees in October after spending parts of three seasons with the Brandon Wheat Kings, a club he helped to a WHL championship last year.

In 40 games with the Vees this season, he netted 11 goals and 28 points.

“Duncan has won everywhere he has played,” Queen’s coach Brett Gibson noted in the release. “He is the exact type of person and player were are looking for in this recruiting year: a big, reliable forward who knows what it takes to win.”

Campbell and the rest of the Vees begin their playoff drive this Friday at 7 p.m. at the South Okanagan Events Centre versus the visiting Merritt Centennials.

Game 2 goes Saturday at 6 p.m. at the SOEC, before the series shifts to Merritt for Game 3 on March 20 and Game 4 on March 21.

Game 5, if necessary, is scheduled for March 23 at the SOEC, followed by Game 6 on March 24 at Merritt, and Game 7 at the SOEC on March 27.

Single-game tickets cost $16 for adults and $14 for seniors and students. Children 18-andunder get in free. Vees fans are asked to wear blue to show support for their team.
