Guilty plea from man who fled from police after being stopped in Penticton

- By ANDREA PEACOCK

One of the men arrested following a police takedown on the William R. Bennett Bridge in January has pleaded guilty.

On Jan. 12, Penticton RCMP stopped two occupants in a suspicious vehicle, but the driver sped off before police could speak with them. Police did not pursue the vehicle, but shared information about it with nearby detachments, said police.

Kelowna RCMP, police dog services and air services worked together to stop the suspect vehicle on the bridge, where both suspects were apprehended.

The incident shut down the eastbound lanes for some time, and several cars, including a police car, were heavily damaged in the process.

Ryan Regan, 33, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of failure to stop at an accident, mischief to property over $5,000, assault with a weapon and flight from a police officer. All his offences are listed as occurring in West Kelowna.

On Thursday, Regan pleaded guilty to three of the charges: dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon and flight from a police officer.

Michael Dennison, 25, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a vehicle while disqualified, possession of stolen property under $5,000, flight from a peace officer and a breach of probation.

All his offences are listed as occurring in Penticton.

He is scheduled to plead guilty to all counts on March 23.
