Questionable position: mayor

Joe Fries’ coverage of the documents detailing meetings of the mayor and Trio owners was excellent (Herald, March 16).

The mayor must have skipped the UBCM Mayors’ Class 101 where it is stipulated that neither the mayor, nor councillors, should meet privately with developers whether it be in a cafe, bar or office.

Any communication between developers and local government should be carried out at either in-camera or open council meetings.

By carrying out these meetings with Trio, Mayor Jakubeit has put himself in a questionable position of involvement in the resultant agreement with the City and Trio. Sharon Hallberg Penticton
