Heat win to snap Coyotes’ streak and stay alive

-

The Osoyoos Coyotes’ 10-game playoff winning streak ended in heartbreaking fashion while keeping the Chase Heat alive in the KIJHL playoffs.

Cody Hodges scored with 6:14 left in the first overtime period after Kolten Moore tied the game with three seconds left in regulation as the Heat overcame the visiting Coyotes 4-3 on Tuesday.

The Coyotes still led the best-of-five OkanaganShuswap Division final 2-1 going into Game 4 Wednesday in Chase. (Result on page B2 if available by press time).

If necessary, Game 5 goes Friday at 8 p.m. at the Sun Bowl Arena.

It looked like the Coyotes would be headed home to Osoyoos with a three-game series sweep after opening up a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes on goals by Bryson Cecconi and Jackson Glimpel at 19:55 of the second period.

Josh Bourne got one back for Chase early in the third, but Ryan Roseboom’s power-play goal restored the two-goal Osoyoos cushion with 6:17 to play.

Kaden Black made it 3-2 with 5:04 to go before Moore tied it up in the dying seconds with Nic Bruyere on the bench for an extra skater.

Bruyere had 37 saves while Adam Jones made 25 stops for the Coyotes, who are now 10-1 in the post-season.

In the Kootenay Conference final, the Beaver Valley Nite Hawks triumphed 4-1 in Kimberley and led the Dynamiters 2-1 going into Game 4 Wednesday, also in Kimberley. If necessary, Game 5 goes Friday in Fruitvale.
