Penticton Herald

Thanks for efforts of Dave Brunelle

Dear Editor: It was lovely to see Dave Brunelle and the Thursday Night Jazz Band featured in the paper this morning ( Herald, March 28). They have enriched not only their own lives through the playing and camaraderie of making music together, and the lives of their listeners by creating wonderful music. They have enriched the lives of many others through their support of local charities assisting those less fortunate.

For any readers interested in hearing this wonderful band, they are not only playing at the Fest of Ale but will be playing this Thursday at 7 p.m. at The Barking Parrot, in support of the Penticton and Area Access Society.

We are a local charity working to assist those in poverty in moving forward with their lives. Tickets are $25, and are available at the Lakeside, Prospera Credit Union, or Access Centre at 209-304 Martin St. For more information about this event, or the work of the Access Society in supporting those in poverty, please visit: www.accesscentre.org, or call 250-493-6822.

Elmie Saaltink, chair Penticton and Area Access Society ahead. I really get annoyed with shoppers leaving Walmart and Safeway and just proceed willy-nilly to their vehicles without checking for traffic.

After all, those yellow lines are there for them to use as they desire aren't they, or so they think. Please give we drivers a break before you just proceed without even looking to see if a car is coming. I’ve even had a couple of occasions where somebody has walked right into my car because their noses are buried in their damned phones!

I’d also like to know what the rule is for inline skaters, cyclists and skateboarders using sidewalks. If I’m turning right on a green traffic light and there’s no pedestrian crossing light activated, don’t I have the right of way? Many times I’ve had a cyclist or inline skater on the sidewalk use my green light as their green light and they barrel ahead, nearly running into my car.

I obviously figured wrong that anybody using a sidewalk must use the activated crosswalk signal before they cross. These people I mention certainly can’t have it both ways, but then again, they just don’t care!

Just remember what we oldtimers were taught many moons ago. Stop, look and listen before you cross the street....use your eyes, use your ears, and then use your feet. Mavis Creech

Penticton a beer in Skaha Park, and bylaw amendments rushed through without proper public consultation, I hope will become a thing of the past.

Penticton city council is now squarely in Victoria’s sights. The offices of the ombudsperson, privacy commissioner and others must be shaking their heads and wondering why so many citizens of Penticton are contacting them with inquiries of possible wrong-doing.

I think the “swamp” that Mr. Trump was talking about has a smaller cousin in the Okanagan.

November of 2018 cannot arrive soon enough. Chris MacKay Penticton
