Modest clothing line unveiled by designer
Local woman to be featured at biggest student fashion show
When it comes to fashion, sometimes more is more.
Hailing from her hometown of Penticton, Crystal Scheffler, now a Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) fashion student, will reveal her fashion line for the modest woman at B.C.’s biggest student fashion show April 5 and 6.
“I am really looking forward to presenting all the hard work and dedication I have put into my collection,” said Scheffler. “The last four years leading up to this show have been intense, but I can’t wait to see my garments go down the runway.”
The aptly titled Demure collection offers full coverage clothing for modern women who value modesty. From high necklines to wrists and ankles, women can feel comfortable yet elegant and fashion forward.
“It is so important that everyone feel included in fashion,” said Scheffler. In Demure, “they can feel great every day no matter how they choose to dress.”
Scheffler developed the line as her final project before graduating from the Wilson School of Design’s Fashion Design and Technology program. The program provides students with a rigorous studiobased design education that provides opportunity of growth in the fashion industry. The capstone project involves extensive market and design research, requiring students to create garments that meet a market need.
After graduation, Scheffler plans to work locally in the Lower Mainland and expand her fashion career in technical production. In a few years, she hopes to take her skills abroad and mix her love for fashion with her love for travel.
Presented by Tamoda Apparel, 2017 The Show will showcase 28 emerging designers and their collections April 5 and 6 at the Imperial Vancouver. Tickets are $20. To purchase or for more information, visit kpu.ca/2017fashionshow.mation, visit kpu.ca/2017fashionshow.
