Survivor contestant who outed competitor loses his job

-

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Survivor contestant Jeff Varner, who outed fellow competitor Zeke Smith as transgender on Wednesday night’s episode of the CBS reality competition, has been fired from his real estate job.

The Greensboro News & Record reports Varner was fired on Thursday from Allen Tate Realtors because he was “in the middle of a news story that we don’t want anything to do with.”

Varner made accusations of “a deception” before revealing that Smith is transgender. Varner was immediately criticized by other players. He repeatedly apologized, but was voted out of the competition.

Smith said he didn’t mention he is transgendered because he didn’t want to be known as “the trans Survivor player.”

NASHVILLE — Grammy-winning guitarist and singer Glen Campbell is releasing his final studio album, recorded shortly after his Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis in 2011.

The record label, Universal Music Enterprises, announced Friday that the album, Adios, will be released on June 9. Campbell hasn’t performed since 2012 and is in a long-term care facility, but his wife, Kim Campbell, said in a statement he felt a sense of urgency after his diagnosis to record one last time.

Campbell’s hits include Wichita Lineman, Galveston and his signature song, Rhinestone Cowboy.

Hyland teething tablets recalled over toxic herb

The maker of Hyland’s teething tablets has issued a recall for any remaining packages at the urging of U.S. regulators, who say the medicine has inconsistent levels of a herb that can be poisonous.

Standard Homeopathic Co. of Los Angeles stopped making and shipping the tablets last October. It said it’s notifying distributors and stores to return any leftover products, while consumers should throw them out.

The recall announced Thursday covers Hyland’s Baby Teething Tablets and Hyland’s Baby Nighttime Teething Tablets, meant to relieve gum discomfort from emerging teeth.
