RDOS to take over 3 transit routes

-

Just a few more strokes of a pen are required for the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen to officially take over administration of three transit routes that originate in Osoyoos and travel as far north as Kelowna.

The board of the RDOS voted unanimously Thursday to enter into the necessary agreements with BC Transit that will allow it to assume control of the system from the Town of Osoyoos.

Route 1 operates four days a week within Osoyoos only, Route 2 runs to Penticton three days a week; and Route 3 goes to Kelowna once a week.

The total cost to the RDOS after deducting revenue is projected at $45,000 per year. The bill will be shared unequally by Areas A, C and parts of D, and the towns of Oliver and Osoyoos.

Once the RDOS has assumed control, its systems will eventually be harmonized with others in the region operated by the City of Penticton, District of Summerland and Town of Princeton.
