Aquatics staff aid man in distress

-

Aquatics staff at the Penticton Community Centre may have saved another life.

Lifeguards on Tuesday afternoon were called to a report of someone in distress sitting in a chair outside the physiotherapy clinic, according to city manager Peter Weeber.

They quickly discovered the patient — believed to be a 28-year-old man, although Weeber couldn’t confirm that — unresponsive and not breathing.

The rescuers performed CPR until paramedics arrived, and the patient regained consciousness before leaving for the hospital by ambulance, said Weeber, who noted an AED device was applied to the man, but no shock was required.

Lifeguards have been credited with saving lives at the centre at least two other times in the past two years. In January 2015, they revived a woman who went into cardiac arrest while swimming, and in April 2016 they did the same for a man who collapsed while playing pickleball.

RCMP: Don’t leave valuables in vehicle

Residents are again reminded to never leave valuables unattended in their cars.

RCMP report several recent incidents of theft, including one at Munson Mountain on April 15 when a hiker returned to find the windows smashed in her Jeep Patriot and a purse missing.

In another occurrence, a 2014 Mitsubishi Overlander was stolen from a driveway in the 400 block of Main Street. There were two bikes in the back of the vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered in New Denver but the bikes were gone.

Man charged over stolen Mazda

A 33-year-old Penticton man faces several charges related to the alleged theft of a brown Mazda. The vehicle was stolen from a driveway on Stewart Place in Penticton.

The thief used a screwdriver to start the ignition. He was spotted along with another male later in the morning and both were arrested. One man faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.
