School district holding information meeting on Chute Lake issue

-

The Central Okanagan school district is holding an information meeting to talk about space issues at Chute Lake Elementary on Monday.

Chute Lake Elementary, which was built in 2009, required the use of portables within two years to accommodate the number of students.

Parents have expressed concerns about having to put their children on waitlists to get into the school or having to send their children to another school, further from home.

“We are constantly trying to adapt our schools to changes, whether they are to the size of classes or to the size of the neighbourhood, and we will do our best to minimize the impact of those changes on students,” said the district in a statement.

The Chute Lake Elementary property has limited space in which to expand, said the district.

“In such a case, the district must ensure that students still have access to the best possible learning environment, and this can mean transportation to a nearby school that has room for more students.”

The information meeting will be held at Chute Lake Elementary School, 5240 Lark St., on Monday at 4 p.m.
