Summerland Royalty presented to council

- By SUSAN McIVER

Tonight’s Summerland Council meeting begins with Mayor Peter Waterman administering the oath of office to the new Summerland Royalty.

Chloe Knowles holds the dual titles of Miss Summerland and Miss Congeniality. Emma Fetterer and Trista Algar are Summerland Princesses.

Council will consider three development variance permit applications recommended by staff for approval.

The owners of property located at 10205 Giants Head Rd., are requesting a variance in order to construct a two storey garage with a recreation room above with a building height of 7.245 m.

The second application is to reduce the front yard setbacks and increase site coverage at 16-10605 Cedar Ave., to allow for the construction of a single family dwelling in the same format as the existing homes within the strata.

The third application is to increase the maximum height of retaining walls at 12601 Morrow Ave., in order to re-landscape the front yard.

Director of development services Dean Strachan will present an update on the proposed development at 13610 Banks Cres.

Strachan hopes that the final review of the environmental assessment report will be available in time for release by tonight’s meeting.

Staff recommends denying the request by the Waterfront Resort & Spa at 13011 Lakeshore Dr., to have a food vendor vehicle parked on Lakeshore Drive in front of the property on Fridays from May to September, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Council will decide at which of seven proposed sites the Canada 150 Mosaic mural will be placed.

The staff recommendation to support the Doors Open Summerland event, to be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, will come before council.

The purpose of the event is to promote awareness and appreciation of “built environments” by offering a behind-the-scenes look at buildings and facilities not normally accessible to the public.

Staff are also recommending that they be authorized to submit a grant application on behalf of the district to Plan H Active Communities for outdoor fitness equipment and corresponding health and fitness education and community engagement strategy.

The equipment would be located at Peach Orchard Park.

The owners of property located at 11707 Quinpool Rd., are requesting a zoning bylaw amendment to accommodate a two lot subdivision.

Council will consider giving first, second and third readings to a road closure and removal of highway dedication bylaw for property located at 4800 Woods Ave.

The public is welcome to the meeting which begins at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Hall, 13211 Henry Ave.
