Entertainers of the Year: the Vees

-

Dear Editor: We sure do have something to celebrate in the city of Penticton.

Jason Becker, assistant coach of the Penticton Vees. spoke very highly of our 2016-17 Vees as their stint at the RBC Cup ended Saturday, one day short of the final game. Jason told EZRock listeners: “It was a fun ride. A long ride. We can all be excited about this team that was.”

You betcha we can, and we are! Jason reminded us that the Vees had played 92 hard-fought games. And don’t we know it! That's really amazing when you think about it.

Penticton Vees are one of four best Junior A Hockey teams in the nation. That’s what we need to hold onto. We appreciate them and we’re proud of them.

Jason, Coach “Harbz” (Fred Harbinson) and Fraser Rogers were all all choked up as they took us listeners through a great tribute to the boys and their vision to get us to the finish line. If you didn’t listen to the post-game show, you really missed something special. I’m sure every listener was near tears, too.

We fans can be truly grateful to Coach Harbz and Co. for their ability to bring together, year after year, a bunch of fellas who will eventually leave here as better persons, well-rounded, personable and in-tune with a huge fan base from babies to seniors.

There’s always more to say, but who needs to. We love this team! We love the nail-biting, skill-filled games they bring to us for months on end. We all care about them. Their well-being, their progress as players, and their futures beyond.

This team has been No. 1 in entertainment and we all need to give them a big hand for giving us that.

We need to thank them, big time, for the countless hours spent on and off-ice, and for doing that at the same time as they receive their education.

Special thanks to the senior players. It's never easy to say goodbye but you can bet we're looking for you down the road as you move on.

This team is “Entertainment of the Year” and I approve. All the best. I am forever your fan. Jean Mitchell Penticton
