Flames remain winless

The Penticton Flames remained winless in the month of June.

The first-place Vernon Tigers defeated the Flames 15-6 Monday at Memorial Arena to complete a homeand-home series sweep in Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League action.

Penticton (5-6-1) remained in fourth place after losing their third straight game this month. Four of the six losses have come at the hands of Vernon (10-3-0).

Brett Olsen and Jake Pelletier led the Tigers with four goals apiece, Kolten Kirschner notched three and Kyle Cuzzatto a goal and four assists. Tanner Gilbert, Connor Webb and Eric Reid also scored for the visitors, who led 4-1 and 9-5 at the period breaks.Sam Jones, Brenden Deverill, Rhys McDonald, Jake MacLeod, Connor Walton and Colin Duffield scored for the Flames.

Darnell Hauca made just 22 saves for the win while Charles Nicholas stopped 38 shots for the Flames.

A Central Okanagan Seniors’ SloPitch League team is on the lookout for a few good men and women.

The Penticton-Summerland Copper Muggers is hoping to recruit some experience­d players – women age 45 and over and men age 55 and over – to play in the nine-team league.

There are five teams from the Penticton-Summerland area and one each from Osoyoos, Oliver, Peachland and West Kelowna. Games are played Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and are usually over by noon.

The popular league runs from lateApril until the final week of August, with a playoff tournament at Dale Meadows Park in Summerland ending the season.

Muggers’ Marv Johnson said his squad has been hit hard by injuries and a few more healthy bodies are needed.

GOLF

The team of Tom Livingston­e, Norm Boucher and Les Stevens carded a 121 to post a one-shot win at the Twin Lakes Golf Resort Senior Men’s Day had a hat-trick and Vernon scored three unanswered third-period goals to beat Penticton Saturday at Kal Tire Place.

Olsen and Chase Wirth each scored twice and Kirschner and Chris Inscho carded singles for the winners.

Duffield with two, Walton, MacLeod, Logan Cote and Louis Shortreed scored for the Flames, who had rallied to tie the game 6-6 after two periods.

Kyle McIntosh made 24 saves for Vernon while Nicholas stopped 39 for the Flames.

The Flames have a good chance to get in the win column tonight as they visit the winless Kelowna Raiders (013-0). The Flames won the previous three meetings.

After that, the Flames will have just three games left – their final home game Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Arena against second-place Kamloops Venom, and road games June 23 at Armstrong and June 25 at Vernon.

The Flames are assured of a playoff spot with Kelowna mathematic­ally eliminated from contention. “Reverse Waltz — Tuesday.

Second place at 122 went to Larry Thompson, Mitch Netterfiel­d Gerry Chalmers and Jan Creighton, while Red Bosscha, Ken Lintott and Doug Coulter were third at 125.

Bosscha bagged closest to the pin on No. 2 while Thompson on No. 8 and Grant Olsen on No. 14 had the long putts.

Boucher, Chalmers and Doug Laisi notched deuces.

Peggy Sheridan collected 40 points to top the 0-25 handicap flight at the Penticton Golf and Country Club ladies’ “par points and low net” outing on Tuesday.

Marleen Tymofievic­h had 39 points and Laura Mansell 38.

In the 26-plus flight, it was Elaine Vonck with 43, Katie Hicks 41 and Linda Avison 40.

Vonck was also the Ladies’ Zone 2 Challenge low net winner at 65.

The team of Paul Brisson, Gary Perkins, Flip Murray and Ken Barron collected 101 points to win the Penticton Golf and Country Club senior men’s day Stableford event on Wednesday.

Finishing second with 97 points were Randy Dewolf, Bill Bobbitt, Larry Badger and Sid Perrott. 3-2-1” outing
