Kids teach their dads how to hip-hop dance at Uplands School

- By AMANDA SHORT

When 44 kindergarten pupils taught their dads how to hip-hop dance Thursday afternoon, there was certainly a lot of hopping involved. Kate Crowell-Hanston and Mary Hamilton’s kindergarten classes at Uplands Elementary School have been receiving hip-hop dance instruction from Jake Evans, or Jedi, and his son Damien.

Lessons culminated with a Father’s Day dance celebration called Dance With Dads. Despite the title, all family members were welcome to attend the event, which promoted “healthy hearts and exercise, and dads being unplugged,” said Hamilton.

The kids taught their dads the moves Evans taught them, including the “bobble-head,” “seagull poop” and “pancake,” and they all performed a routine together.
