YOUTH SOCCER

Two Pinnacles FC girls’ teams qualified for the Provincial B Cup soccer championsh­ip July 6-9 in Surrey.

The Pinnacles FC won 4-1 on aggregate over Kelowna United in the Thompson Okanagan Youth Soccer League under-18 girls’ finals, triumphing 2-0 in Penticton and 2-1 in Kelowna.

The under-16 girls — after winning the regular-season title — lost 2-1 in the final to Kelowna Sunday in Kamloops. However, the Penticton squad qualified for the provincial­s as the TOYSL runner-up.

A big surprise was the first-place Pinnacles FC under-16 boys bowing 2-1 to Vernon in the semifinals after beating them 9-0 a week earlier. The under-14 boys lost on a late goal 2-1 to Kamloops, while the under-15 girls also bowed out in the semifinals.

MINOR BASEBALL

The South Okanagan Minor Baseball Associatio­n Tigers posted a pair of wins over Kelowna area rivals in bantam A baseball league play on the weekend.

In a 12-4 win over Kelowna Gray, Nate Collins pitched six innings of four-hit ball and Ethan Poole went 4-for-5 with a homer. Kyton McFadden played solid defensivel­y.

Adrian Orioli thumped an inside-the-park homer and went 4-for-5 as did Collins and Poole in a 16-12 win over the West Kelowna Reds 12.

GOLF

Garth Humphreys carded a 77 to take low gross honours at the Summerland Golf and Country Club senior men’s day “one gross/ three net scores” outing on Thursday.

Other low gross flight winners were Alf Vaagen at 87 and Rick Drewiscz at 93.
