Car-wreck in Victoria?
Dear Editor: B.C.'s provincial election resulted in more twists and turns than a spaghetti junction, and there’s gridlock in Victoria’s legislature with 43 seats on each side after a Speaker is chosen.
That essentially neutral peacekeeping referee role becomes nullified by the Speaker having to break every tie vote, rather than directing traffic in an orderly fashion.
There could be nasty car-wreck in Victoria, if the gears don’t mesh quite as smoothly as the Green-Democrat Alliance predicted after their merger.
The pedestrian plebeian public on the sidewalk has grown used to colourful politics in B.C. We have a situation where the Liberals whose colour is red have been stopped having reached a dead end; the NDP whose colour is orange were somewhat impatiently waiting at the amber light at the three-way intersection; when along came the Greens with their signal to go!
The G-D Alliance boldly declared that their government will cruise happily along the highway for the full four-year term. Political predictions are not for the faint of heart, and the May 9 vote cost taxpayers $44-million.
We all nervously keep our foot hovering over the brake pedal waiting to see how the new traffic light politics work in Victoria.
Should things come to a grinding halt with a car-wreck, the next trip to the polls may be even more costly, and sooner rather than later. Bernie Smith Parksville
