Running back suffers torn knee ligament

Edmonton Eskimos running back John White will miss the rest of the CFL season after tearing a knee ligament in last week’s 23-19 victory over the Montreal Alouettes.

White tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, the Eskimos said Monday in a statement.

Bouchard bows out in 1st round at Wimbledon

LONDON — Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard made an early exit at Wimbledon on Monday after dropping a 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 decision to Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro in first-round play.

White has spent his entire four-year CFL career with the Eskimos, previously missing the 2015 campaign with a ruptured Achilles. opponent made just 14.

Bouchard, who has been bothered by a right ankle injury, also lost her opening matches at two pre-Wimbledon grass-court tournament­s.

Earlier, Montreal’s Francoise Abanda beat Japan’s Kurumi Nara 6-2, 6-4, and Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz defeated wild-card entry Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2).

Sixth-seeded Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., Vasek Pospisil of Vernon and Bianca Andreescu of Vancouver were scheduled to play today at the All-England Club.
