Summerland’s Chicken Little

-

I’m sure everyone is familiar with the story of Chicken Little.

She was the one that ran around in circles frantically proclaiming, “the sky is falling, the sky is falling!” when in fact, no such thing was ever going to happen.

Well it seems that Chicken Little, after an illustrious career of promoting doom and gloom, has retired and moved to Summerland. Some creatures, however, were never meant to spend their days in a rocking chair on the porch so Chicken Little decided to join a local citizen’s group to help generate angst and uncertainty about the new iCasa Resort Living project.

Now, in my heart I know that Chicken Little means well but instead of doing her own research on the District website, she got caught up in a wave of negative propaganda, here-say and ugly rumour.

Over the years the powers that be in Summerland have been privy to many impressive ideas and potential projects planned for this community. Rather than help Summerland prosper, all responsible developers and project leaders have rolled up their drawings, loaded their trucks and high-tailed it out of Summerland before the sun set — all because Chicken Little reared its ugly head.

I think it’s time we move forward and put an end to this Chicken Little mentality existing in our community. Once again, a responsible developer (the Lark Group) has stepped forward to invest millions of dollars in Summerland by promoting health care, jobs, housing and economic growth.

Why should we not trust in the due diligence and expertise the developer brings to the table to ensure the success of their investment?

If Chicken Little wasn’t such a scrawny old bird, I’d throw her on the BBQ, but who wants to chow down on doom and gloom? I certainly don’t!

Let’s encourage Chicken Little to move on, say, how about sending her to Alberta? Angela Sielmann
