PEACHFEST SCHEDULE OF SPECIAL EVENTS

AUGUST 8-13

- Shooting Star Amusements in Rotary Park (on Okanagan Lake). The fun starts at 5 p.m., from Tuesday to Friday; and at noon on Saturday and Sunday.

AUGUST 9-11

- First annual Home Hardware Kids Zone in Gyro Park, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The Kids Zone will feature ventriloqu­ist Kellie Haines; bouncy castles; face painting; reptile petting zoo; library corner; and many other free attraction­s.

AUGUST 9-11

- The second annual Peachfest Mega Motocross will take place on Lakeshore Drive, adjacent to Okanagan Lake Park. Three of Canada’s top riders will thrill crowds, twice per day. Go to peachfest.com for show times. Sponsored by Canadian Tire, Eckert Electric, Chamberlai­n Property Group and Dulux Paints.

AUGUST 9-12

-The 64th annual Square Dance Festival will be held in the Princess Margaret High School Gymnasium, on Green Avenue West. A special teen and young adult dance will be held in Gyro Park on Friday, Aug. 11, from 1-3 p.m.

AUGUST 9-13

- The Peachfest Reel Film Festival... nightly at approximat­ely 9 p.m. on the Tim Hortons Giant Screen in Okanagan Lake Park. Short films will be shown in two categories: Liquid Libations and Okanagan Experience­s. A total of $2,000 in prize money will be presented.

AUGUST 10-12

- Peach Festival welcomes members of the Northwest Festivals Hosting Associatio­n from throughout the Pacific Northwest. Lakeside Resort is the host hotel for the weekend events.

AUGUST 11

- Crowning of Miss Penticton at 7 p.m., at the Cleland Theatre.

AUGUST 12

- Elks Pancake Breakfast, from 7-11 a.m., at the Elks Hall on Ellis Street.

AUGUST 12

- Portland Rosarians host their Rose Planting Ceremony in the Rose Garden, (adjacent to the SS Sicamous), at 8:30 a.m.

AUGUST 12

-Peters Bros. Grand Parade gets under way at 10 a.m., on Main Street. The new parade route starts at the comer of Eckhart Avenue and Main Streets; goes north on Main Street to Wade Avenue; left on, Wade; right on Winnipeg Street; and then left on Lakeshore Drive. Vancouver Police Motorcycle Drill Team performs en route, starting at 9:30 a.m.

AUGUST 12

- The fifth annual Pentown Throwdown Skateboard and BMX event at Riverside Park. Competitio­n is scheduled from 12 noon to 7 p.m. Sponsors include Boyd Autobody, Nufloors and Boston Pizza. Special guest at the event is actor/rapper Travis Turner.

AUGUST 12

- Charity barbecue from 12 noon to 4:30 p.m. at Riverside Park with 100% of proceeds going to the Penticton Youth Centre. Sponsored by Boyds Autobody and IGA.

AUGUST 12-13

- The 14th annual Sheila Bishop Memorial Wooden Bat Slopitch Tournament at Lions Park. In addition to the tournament, there will be a beverage garden, silent auction and home run hitting contest. All proceeds are donated to charity. In past years, more than $50,000 has been donated. To register, or for further informatio­n, phone 250-809-7601.

AUGUST 13

-Skaha Ultra Swim gets under way at Skaha Beach at 7 a.m. A capacity number of 100 entrants will swim from Skaha Beach to Okanagan Falls.

AUGUST 13

-DPA Kiddies Day Parade costume judging at the comer of Wade Avenue and Main Street at 11 a.m. Parade goes down Main Street to Okanagan Lake Park at 11:30 a.m. A&W Kiddies Day activities get under way at noon in Okanagan Lake Park ‘Bobs and Lolo’ will be the headliners, sponsored by BCAA.
