Albert Harrison of the United States posted a 56-second win over his nearest rival in the Age Group Standard Distance Duathlon at the ITU Multisport World Championsh­ip Festival Monday in Penticton.

Harrison clocked in at 1 hour, 51 minutes and 8 seconds to capture the world title in the competitio­n, which featured a 10 km run, 40 km run and another 5 km run.

Lee Piercy of Great Britain was second in 1:52:04 while Canadian Matt Straatman rounded out the top three in 1:52:54.

On the women’s side, Kirsten Sass made it a clean sweep for the U.S. by prevailing in 2:02:17. Canadian Melissa Paauwe was second in 2:04:47 and Gill Fullen of Great Britain was third in 2:08:07.

30-34: Male, Adam Goulet, US, 1:54:04; Female, Melissa Paauwe, 2:04:47.

35-39: Male, Jeremy Hopwood, Canada, 1:53:48; Female, Kirsten Sass, 2:02:17.

40-44: Male, Lee Piercy, 1:52:04; Female, Aimee Phillippi-Taylor, US, 2:09:02.

45-49: Male, Dave Slavinski, US, 1:55:03; Female, Katherine Ryan, Australia, 2:14:34.

Former Herald editor Paul Varga, competing in the men’s 50-54 age group, finished in a time of 3:15:57.
