Out-of-towners boost Penticton

-

Dear Editor: Re: “Don’t subsidize out-of-towners” by Elvena Slump (Herald, Aug. 21). This is ridiculous, to say the least! Think of major cities Elvena that encourage out-of-towners to come and enjoy paying through the nose to support the Vancouver Canucks and other sports franchises and concerts, the Calgary Stampede, the Victoria Harbour and a myriad of many other venues where out-of-towners are always welcomed.

User pay is fine if I indeed used everything that you were blabbing about.

I have written this before. We have and continue to spend thousands of dollars every year in your city, the latest being for a new furnace at a cost of more than three grand.

May I ask you when was the last time you played tennis or floated on a tube down the channel or spent a few bucks away from your hub in Penticton ?

It would be nice to grant your wish, Elvena, and watch a dark cloud hover above your fair city as we out-of-towners spend our money elsewhere.

Like Jack Nicholson said “A Few Good Men” — “You need us on that wall.”

Maybe the fine Penticton Herald newspaper that we out-of towners support should be abandoned.

One more thing Elvena, I believe you had a mayor recently who was living outside of your city limits in Trout Creek and that didn’t seem to ruffle any feathers. Tom Isherwood
