Public doesn’t want machines

-

Dear Editor: This letter is written in regards to Election Bylaw No. 1332-2017 especially as it was reported that: “The Town (of Osoyoos) continues to have an automated voting machine By-Law 1239.”

There is a great concern with all the people of Osoyoos with the use of the automatic voting machines and it’s the people’s wish to have the people decide whether By Law No. 1332, 2017 should be adopted.

The residents of Osoyoos strongly recommend that this should go to alternative approval process (as per the Community Charter). The residents of Osoyoos will object to an accent of elector process (formerly known as a referendum) because the Town of Osoyoos would use the very automatic voting machines where the reliability is in question.

The residents of Osoyoos want the total removal of the Accu Vote O/S automatic voting machines withdrawn immediately.

During the council of the whole meeting of Dec. 21, 2015 it was reported that: “Mayor (Sue) McKortoff stated that council may look at the bylaw about six months prior to the election and can choose to adjust what the current practice is or leave as is.”

The people of Osoyoos want to circumvent this mostly unlikely action and have a voice in the way their votes are tallied.

The action proposed by the people would put to rest the ongoing perceived issues once and for all. Let the residents of Osoyoos speak. Sy Murseli Osoyoos
