Mauricio Cepeda’s second goal of the game with five minutes to play lifted Penticton Dental Centre FC to a 3-2 victory over Kelowna Tree Brewing in Capri Okanagan Oldtimers’ Soccer League 45-and-over division play Monday.

At the Parkinson Rec Centre in Kelowna, the hosts took an early lead on the first of two goals by Dave Short.

Goals by Cepeda and Jon Padgett put Penticton ahead 2-1, Short tied the game to set up Cepeda’s dramatic winner.

Penticton (14-1-1) remained two points behind Brown Benefits (150-1) with two league games left.

Penticton plays the last two at home, including this Monday at 7 p.m. at King’s Park against Mission Cleaners. Soccer United is the visitor on Sept. 11 with the playoffs set for Sept. 18 and 25.

In the 55-and-over division, the regular season wraps up Thursday with local rivals Summerland (10-7-0) and Penticton (8-8-1) clashing in a 7 p.m. kickoff at Dale Meadows Park. Penticton won the first of the home-and-home set 4-2 on Aug. 17.

SLO-PITCH

If the Sportsfrea­ks are unable to repeat as Penticton Men’s SloPitch League regular season champs, they’ll look back to a pair of wild, high-scoring losses to the Gutter Done Right Titans.

The Titans (10-6-0) stunned the ‘Freaks again on Monday, posting a 25-23 win at Lion’s Community Park. On Aug. 3, the Titans outlasted the ‘Freaks 29-26.

The Sportsfrea­ks did bounce back on Monday to beat Black Contractin­g Raptors 20-14.

The league-leading Wolfpack is a perfect 13-0-0 on the season with seven games left.

The ‘Freaks (9-2-0) still have nine games left including a pivotal game tonight at 9 p.m. as they go head-to-head with the Wolfpack for the first time. The teams also meet again on Sept. 7.

The Wolfpack — regular season champs in 2015 — are playing two games tonight as they also face TDA at 7:30 p.m. TDA also faces HEC Highlander­s at 6 p.m.

At Scott Mullins Field, the Titans look to continue their magic against the top team as they face second-place Lightning (10-31) in a 6:30 p.m. start.

Quest (10-4-0), the Titans and Sportsfrea­ks round out the top five.

Regular season play in the 14team league continues through to Sept. 21, with playoffs to follow.

The Sportsfrea­ks will be shooting for a fourth straight playoff title.

Meanwhile, the Penticton women’s league regular season ended with the Predators taking the title with a 13-2-1 record. Barking Parrot Boozers were a close second at 12-3-1.

Playoff action started Tuesday night with the top four teams in the A pool and the bottom four making up the B pool.

The A pool final will be played Sept. 12, with the B pool final on Sept. 7.

KIJHL

The Osoyoos Coyotes split a home-and-home set with the Princeton Posse to open KIJHL pre-season play on the weekend.

Both teams posted road wins, with the Posse prevailing 7-1 at the Sun Bowl Arena on Saturday and the Coyotes returning the favour 5-1 Sunday in Princeton.

The Coyotes finish their pre-season with a home-and-home series with arch-rival Summerland Steam on the weekend, with the teams convening Friday at 7:35 p.m. at the Sun Bowl and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Summerland Arena.

Regular season play starts the Sept. 8-9 weekend with Osoyoos visiting Chase and Kelowna, while Summerland is home to 100 Mile House and away to Kamloops.
