Munoz scores twice, Peters golden in net
Penticton swept the home-and-home series, though Summerland finished ahead in the final standings
Tony Munoz and Norm Peters combined to give Penticton TCA another win over their local rivals.
Munoz scored twice and Peters posted the shutout as visiting Penticton blanked Summerland 2-0 in the Capri Okanagan Oldtimers’ 55-and-over soccer league regular season finale Thursday at Dale Meadows Park.
Munoz hit a post early before scoring once in each half. Harry Higson hit the post late on as Summerland pressed to get back into the game.
Penticton swept the home-and-home series, though Summerland finished ahead in the final standings.
In the quarter-final playoffs this Thursday, fourth-place Summerland (108-0) takes on fifth-place Brandt’s Creek at 7 p.m. at Dale Meadows.
Sixth-place Penticton (9-8-1) travels to Beasley Park to play third-place Silver Stars.
The other games have first-place North Country (16-1-1) facing eighth-place Beasley FC, and second-place Westside taking on seventh-place Raiders.
OVER-45s: Second-half goals by Brian Johnston, Herb Alex and Mike Beliveau gave Penticton Dental Centre FC a 3-0 victory over Mission Cleaners Monday at King’s Park.
Norm Peters picked up the shutout as Penticton improved to 16-1-1 with one league game left — this Monday at 7 p.m. at King’s against Soccer United.
Penticton edged within two points in first-place Brown Benefits (16-0-2), who were held to a 2-2 tie by Turn-Key Controls.
Penticton needs a win plus a Brown’s loss to take first place.
The playoffs will be held Sept. 18 and 25.
