Public input sought on proposal to extend city’s boundaries

- — Herald staff

Public consultation begins later this month on a proposal to extend Penticton’s southern boundary to annex a 120-hectare land parcel.

An area of approximately the same size would then be given by the developer to expand Skaha Bluffs Provincial Park.

The land in question is currently within the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen and is envisioned to one day boast 180 new homes.

The city is using the alternate-approval process to get public assent for the annexation, meaning 10 per cent of eligible Penticton voters – about 2,700 people – would have to sign a petition against the plan to trigger a full referendum.

Public consultations are set for Sept. 27, 2-5 p.m., at the Penticton Seniors’ Drop-In Centre; Sept. 30, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., at the Community Market; and Oct. 5, 3-7 p.m., at Wiltse Elementary School.
