Upgrading to XBox One X

- SASHA HEIST

With the launch of the all new Microsoft system due in a few weeks, I want to look at if it requires the average gamer to upgrade.

Let’s start out by looking at the new system itself from a hardware standpoint.

The new Xbox One X has the most powerful specs of any gaming system out there. Period.

The new system has eight – yes, eight -- X86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz.

This compared to a PS4 Pro that comes in at 2.1GHz. The graphics performance chip is made from AMD and is six teraflops which compares to the PS4 at 4.2 teraflops.

The X has 12GB of ram compared to the 9GB of the PS4. Now we can see the new system at $499 US easily beats the PS4 Pro in all comparisons at its $399 price point.

The real specs most gamers care about are the visuals. The new X will have a true 4K/HDR Bluray.

So if you have a true 4K television all the games will look amazing. Microsoft will offer patches that bring pre-release games into the wonderful world of 4K on your new monster system. Most people won't really notice the difference between a game running on a Xbox One S or an X.

The question you really need to ask yourself is: Do I really need the newest console on the market?

If you’re an avid gamer, you more than likely have this system already pre-ordered. But for the average gamer, you should wait for a few months until the prices and popularity drops.

If you don't already have a true 4K television I would suggest investing the console funds there as most cable boxes will now deliver 4K.
