Get Bluffs to referendum
Dear editor: Residents and taxpayers are heaving a sigh of relief that the ill-fated agreement with Trio Marine is finished.
However, according to Mayor Jakubeit's comments the city is still looking at enhancing Skaha Lake notwithstanding public consultation, protests and letters stating that both lake and park are perfect as is.
The 29-year lease is transferable so any developer with a grandiose plan and some dollar bills will find the welcome mat out and Skaha Park available for improvement because no developer will be satisfied with only a marina and a restaurant for 29 years or more.
As for lessons learned, one would think the failed hockey dorm was an expensive enough lesson.
Apparently not because taxpayers are again burdened with an outrageous legal bill courtesy of City of Penticton which could have been avoided with a straightforward referendum.
And now City Hall is looking at expanding the city's boundaries using the alternate approval process.
If not enough people register their objections the city will go ahead and incorporate the Skaha Bluffs area which may open us up to accidents, rescues and lawsuits.
Of course, City Hall has taken this scenario into consideration because they learned their lessons, right? Please pick up a form at City Hall and let this decision go to referendum.
It is considerably cheaper than lawyers’ bills.
