Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a collision on Highway 97A Thursday morning that sent two people to the hospital.

North Okanagan RCMP attended a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 97A north of Enderby at 8:26 a.m.

Both drivers suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash, said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

A northbound green 1996 Ford Explorer, driven by a 39-year-old Aldergrove man, crossed the centre line and struck a southbound red 2016 Ford F150 truck driven by a 58-year-old Salmon Arm woman.

Witnesses told police the Ford Explorer was being driven erratically prior to the crash.

The female driver was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries for medical assessment and treatment.

The male driver was transported to hospital via ambulance with injuries and is being investigated for impaired driving.

The man had outstanding warrants for his arrest and is the subject of a current driving prohibition.

Investigators confirmed the vehicle driven by the man was stolen from Merritt.

Police are seeking to hold him in custody following his medical treatment.

Witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to call the RCMP at 250-838-6818 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800222-8477 to remain anonymous.
