Power outage for Summerland
The District of Summerland has announced two power outages, one for Sunday and another Sunday, Oct. 22 from 12:01 a.m. until 6 a.m. both mornings.
District crews will upgrade several electrical switches at the Prairie Valley substation. These porcelain switches break down over time and become brittle and will be replaced with more durable switches.
The work is being done in the early morning hours in order to cause the least possible disruption.
Areas not affected are Trout Creek, Front Bench and Canyon View areas.

Water doc to screen in Oliver, Osoyoos
A documentary film showcasing Osoyoos Lake and the Okanagan River Basin, its people, the various competing needs for water and how it's all managed will premiere in Osoyoos on Tuesday.
The film will be shown at a meeting of the International Osoyoos Lake Board of Control, a Canadian-U.S. organization that manages the crossborder Osoyoos Lake.
The meeting is set for 6-8:15 p.m. at the Sonora Centre, 8505 68 Ave.
“It’s unusual to be in a transboundary, shared watershed,” said Okanagan Basin Water Board Executive Director Anna Warwick Sears, who sits on the IOLBC. “The meeting is an opportunity for the public to ask questions of the decisionmakers which only happens once a year.”
The documentary is a joint production of the IJC, the Washington State Department of Ecology, the OBWB and its Okanagan WaterWise program.
The film footage provides a spectacular look at the river and the lake, taking viewers on a tour of various sites in the watershed, meeting the people, and connecting with the fish and other life that relies on a healthy water supply, according to a news release.
Attendance at the meeting and film screening is free and all are welcome. For more details visit ijc.org/en_/iolbc/Home.
A second red-carpet screening is planned for Oct. 25 at the Oliver Theatre. This is also a free event, but registration is required at a-river-film.eventbrite.ca.
Lt.-Gov. to attend Diwali dinner
A special guest will be joining the East Meets West Children’s Foundation’s annual Diwali fundraiser dinner tonight.
B.C. Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon will attend the event, which is a fundraiser for an orphanage in Kolkata, India, and for an organization in Nepal that helps marginalized women and children.
“It’s an acknowledgement that the work we are doing is being recognized at one of the highest levels in our province,” said Mohini Singh, organizer of the event, on Guichon’s attendance. “The lieutenant governor herself is a big proponent of supporting children, and I’m deeply honoured and touched that she’s coming for our event.”
East Meets West is aiming to raise $40,000, some of which will also go to help local children.
“We want to give children a chance at leading full lives,” said Singh. The dinner, a celebration of India’s festival of lights, will be held tonight at Rutland Centennial Hall at 6 p.m. The event is mostly sold out, but there may be a few tickets left, said Singh. Call 250-575-1453.
Flood still costing in Peachland
A flood-damaged Peachland road will be repaired at a cost of $315,000. Town council approved an early budget request this week so MacKinnon Road, just south of Cousins Road, can be fixed up before next spring’s run-off.
MacKinnon Road crosses over Law Creek, which had not experienced a significant water flow in the 20 years before last March’s flood.
Repair work includes an alteration in the creek’s path, installation of a new culvert, and repaving the damaged roadway.
