Two Penticton Vees will represent Canada at a major international competition next month.

Forward Massimo Rizzo and defenceman Luke Reid have made the cut for Team Canada at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. They are two of 66 players named to three Canada squads.

The tournament takes place in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John from Nov. 5-11 with eight teams competing. Canada sends three teams — Black, White and Red — while Russia, the United States, Finland, Sweden and the Czech Republic round out the field.

Reid, from Warman, Sask., has five assists in nine games for the Vees so far this season. Reid spent two seasons with the Battlefords Stars of the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League.

In 82 games, Reid scored 12 goals and 38 points.

Rizzo, from Burnaby, is in his first full season with the Vees after appearing as an affiliate player last season. This year he has a goal and three assists in seven games.

Last year Rizzo appeared in three regular season games, seven playoff games, six Western Canada Cup games and five Royal Bank Cup games with the Vees. He was also named the Canadian Sport School Hockey League’s MVP after recording 53 points in 28 games with the Burnaby Winter Club.

Reid and Rizzo join Tyson Jost, Dante Fabbro, Griffin Mendel and current teammate Jonny Tychonick as Vees players to make the Canadian U17 squad in recent years.
