Thank you for thinking globally

Dear Editor: The weekend of October 27 - 29 will be a very busy one for the South Okanagan Grandmothers for Africa, and they are inviting you to join them.

First up will be their 4th annual African Dinner on Friday at the Shatford Centre. This fun evening includes African-themed food, decor and entertainment, as well as special speakers from Africa, and from the Stephen Lewis Foundation. A wonderful assortment of goods and services will be on silent auction as well as craft sales. Tickets are selling fast and are available for $35 from the Shatford office.

On Sunday at Poplar Grove Winery there will be a national book launch event for the recently released “Powered by Love” that documents the 10 year movement of African and Canadian Grandmothers. This free event is open to everyone and will be a great opportunity to hear about what is happening at the grassroots level in SubSaharan Africa. It will include a moderated discussion, book sales and signing, craft sale and of course the chance to buy and sip some awesome local wine.

The Grandmothers for Africa will continue to raise funds to support African grandmothers and their many orphaned grandchildren.

Thank you citizens of Penticton, Cawston, Keremeos, Summerland, Kaleden and Naramata for thinking globally.
