50 (or more) shades of grey
Our buying team just returned from our bi-annual trip to North Carolina and have to report back that grey is still the most prevalent colour for a majority of furniture and case goods.
I’m sure you can remember back to the “espresso” phase which was everywhere and seemed to be the “go to” wood option, well grey is its sister.
With flooring, tile and building materials available in this palette, the availability in furniture makes perfect sense.
Many of the suppliers we purchase from have added several options in the grey family including warm and cool greys in light as well as darker shades.
With so many interiors having the grey-and-white combination, it’s really an easy way to have a harmonious interior environment.
Not only with actual wood pieces, but also the combination of finishing details like antique pewter nail head, metallic trims and accessories in matte and shiny finishes compliment and help add layers of interest to the simple palette.
The other exciting portion to our visit the furniture market, is of course design trends and color forecasts that several groups put together.
The information presented is a culmination of paint companies, design institutes and of course Pantone.
They collectively group together what they feel will be the newest and greatest combinations of colors and materials.
Still seeing lots of gold accents in both polished and matte as well as the tail end of the rose gold (which never really went anywhere).
As with most interior projects, it’s important to start with great neutral pieces and use the trendy items as accents that can be easily replaced without breaking the bank.
We also shopped for area rugs, both machine made and hand knotted. Another fun trend that was splashing over showroom walls now, is a vintage wash look with bright combinations of colors. Blues, pinks, purples and oranges with white or cream backgrounds. Definitely will make an amazing statement and add a fun vibe .....
We will be patiently (or maybe not so patiently) waiting for all of the new furniture, rugs and accessories to land at our warehouse door.
It will be like Christmas morning unpacking and finding the right spot to place in.
Be sure to come by and check everything out.
