Coyotes thump Steam in battle of South Okanagan

The Osoyoos Coyotes continue to have their way with their South Okanagan rivals.

Carter Shannon produced a hat trick as the Coyotes thumped the Summerland Steam 7-3 on Saturday at the Summerland Arena for their third win in as many meetings this season.

Hunter Johnson, Connor Onstein, Keaghan Holub and Colin Bell also scored for the Coyotes, who won their fourth straight game.

Cody Swan scored two and Scott Robinson had a goal and two assists for the Steam, who trailed 4-0 and 6-2 at the period breaks.

Daniel Paul made 19 saves for the win. Matt Huber started and gave up four goals on 14 shots before Owen Pettet came on to make 18 saves on 21 shots in the final 40 minutes.

Knights 6 Chiefs 3: Sean Wilson scored the winning goal with 11:05 left and Jaden Hay added two empty-net markers as North Okanagan stunned Kelowna at the Rutland Arena on Saturday.

Kelowna’s Tyler Love had tied the game at 3-3 just 40 seconds before Wilson bagged the go-ahead goal.

Ben Jossinet, Marshall Porteous and Carl Main also scored for the Knights, who were up 1-0 and 3-2 at the breaks.

Brett Witala and Jarin Sutton had the other goals for the Chiefs, who outshot the visitors 51-25.

FRIDAY — Coyotes 4 Knights 0: Paul again made 19 saves and this time got the shutout as Osoyoos beat North Okanagan in Armstrong.

Johnson, Bell, Austin Cleaver and Sam Reinbolt got the goals and Shannon and Judd Repole each had two helpers for the Coyotes. It was scoreless after 20 minutes before the Coyotes scored twice in each of the last two periods.

Zach Willms made a whopping 54 stops to keep the Knights close.

Steam 5 Chiefs 4 (OT): Blake Holowaty scored with 45 seconds left in the first overtime period as Summerland rallied to beat visiting Kelowna.

Robinson tied the game with his second of the night with 53 seconds to play, while Sam Jones and Lucas Jirousek also clicked for the Steam, who trailed 1-0 and 3-2 at the breaks.

Lane Paddison, with two, Brendan Mongey and Witala clicked for Kelowna.

Huber made 34 saves for the Steam and Aris Anagnostop­oulos blocked 26 shots for the Chiefs.

The Steam (12-4-0), who lead the Coyotes (9-4-1) by five points atop the Okanagan Division standings, host North Okanagan on Friday at 7:35 p.m.

Osoyoos next sees action Saturday as the 100 Mile House Wranglers visit Sun Bowl Arena in a 7:35 p.m. puck-drop.

Kelowna is home to 100 Mile House on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Beaver Valley Nite Hawks are riding a league-best nine-game winning streak.
