Toys program expands

With the goal of no child or teen going without this Christmas in Penticton, organizers have come together to grow the 2017 Toys for Tots to Teens. With the holidays approaching and local businesses Cascades Casino and Canadian Tire are hosting the community toy drive on Friday, Dec. 1.

Cascades Casino will host a morning breakfast toy drop at their location from 7-9 a.m. There will be a complimentary breakfast provided by The Buffet, while Santa and local school choirs will be spreading holiday cheer in Match Eatery and Public House.

“We know how important the Toys for Tots to Teens is for Penticton, and we’re excited to be involved in making the holidays brighter for local families,” said casino GM Michael Magnusson.

“Seeing this community come together with the goal that every child and teen wakes up to find a present under the tree is so inspiring, it is one example of how the residents make Penticton such a wonderful place to live.”

Later in the day, Canadian Tire will be hosting a toy drop-off from 2-6 p.m. with IGA and Tim Hortons providing refreshments. “We have been proud supporters of the Toys for Tots to Teens for 12 years. We are so pleased to see this event grow with the support of the community,” said Canadian Tire owner Lorraine MacMillan. “The holidays are a special time for kids and their families and we are happy to be able to partner with our National Canadian Tire Jumpstart program to help those in need.”

Toys for Tots to Teens will be working with 16-plus organizations that provide support to families in Penticton in need.

While the holidays are a celebration, for many it can be a stressful time due to lack of finances. The community is invited to bring a new unwrapped toy on Dec. 1 and start off the Christmas season with an act of kindness.

The separate Fill The Stocking campaign is also back.

Loco-Landing is donating 100 stockings and will have volunteers drop them off for businesses. If your business would like to Fill The Stocking, you can call 250-4879186, through the Toys for Tots to Teens Facebook page or email info@sparkemedianow.com.
